— MARKETING, SELLING and ADVERTISING, DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE? —

Unfortunately most self-proclaimed Marketing Gurus and Advertising Specialists are usually Designers who think that the term marketing is just a more dazzling, more glamorous word for selling or advertising.

They might have some training in copywriting and layout, and probably speak some of the marketing language, but most of them know nothing about real marketing or strategic development for small business.

I can assure you, Marketing, Selling, and Advertising Are Not the Same. Yes they correlate to each other and they’re all focused on a common objective, but each plays its own part in producing that result. You need them all to have a successful small business but they're quite different and if you, your marketing person or your graphic designer does not know the difference you'll be losing and wasting a Lot of money!

Now, can you really afford to waste your time, your effort and your hard earned money in this economy?

So, What is the difference between Marketing, Selling and Advertising?

Marketing

Marketing is the process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably and includes seven important components:

  1. Market Research — identifies what people want and need, their attitudes, locations, and how to reach them.
  2. Product Research & Development — assists in creating the products or services that will satisfy the marketplace needs.
  3. Testing — Involves testing the research results, the products and services, the pricing, distribution, and sales.
  4. Distribution — how to bring the product or service to the consumer in a convenient and inexpensive way.
  5. Pricing — ensures that you trade profitably and determines the amount you will receive for your products or services.
  6. Selling — the action to get consumers to actually buy your products and services.
  7. Public Relations — manages the flow of information between you and your customers to enhace your image.

Selling

Selling is only one of the seven components in the overall marketing mix. But it's very important because it’s the only point at which money comes into your business to make a profit. There are three ways to sell:

Advertising

Out of the three selling methods, Advertising – when done well – will give you the most leverage because it brings in large numbers of buying prospects. It has the highest leverage because it can reach the most people.

Now you see? They’re all different, but closely related. Advertising is part of the selling process and selling is part of the marketing process.

Fact: The lack and scarcity of sales are not the problem of your business. They’re just a symptom of the real problem

You need to find out why people aren’t buying from you, why the lack of sales.

Advertising under these conditions will not solve your problem. It will only make it worst because more people will be exposed to the real problem.

What you need is to start asking questions. Go deeper. Identify the real problem and fix it, the faster the better.

Then and only then, start a powerful and a professional advertising program that attracts targeted prospects to your products or services.

Question: Did you knew that 89% of Small Business Advertising Fails due to poor planning?

Question: Do you still believe that all you need to increase your sales and be successful is a postcard with great wording and beautiful eye-catching design offered by a “marketing guru” or an “advertising specialist” without doing any research first?

If you do, you are amongst the 75% small business owners that will fail this year, and that is a Fact *.
